Barcelona wins WECL Cup 2007/2008

The Catalan club Barcelona, won their first CL silverware in the WECL. It was a clash of two very dynamic and trophy hungry teams, an encounter NO ACTO PARA CARDIACOS. Roma supporters had travelled west from Roma in their thousands, easily outnumbering the Barca fans inside the Stadium and invading Monaco downtown to watch on big screens. It was all set for Romas’s victory, the flags were risen, the t-shirts were worn, the chants were loud, the emotions were abundant- their arrows were ready to "blot out the sun". Roma came on as favorites after demolíshing the almighty Santos in the semifinal 6-2. Milito and company were ready to put on a show for the fans…Too bad, Barca had plans to spoil the party.

The Catalan side enjoyed plenty of possession with Deco at the heart of some intricate passing moves, orchestrating the midfield. Roma seemed content to soak up the pressure early in the game, showing little attacking intent. Kaka proved to be a meaning presence in the left flank and what a night it will turn out to be for the Brazilian.

Barcelona was able to maintain its coolness and despite a score of 2-1 was able to neutralize any Roma's attempt to counter attack. The win was sealed with Kaka providing to crucial goals in the last 30 minutes of the game and the Catalan club was able to seat back and enjoy the last minutes of their victory.

Despite an inconsistent league performance, Barcelona was able to come out with something positive at the end, their first CUP. "We needed this cup to keep believing in our potential", said Kaka right after the game. "Now we are going after the Orejona next season" he added. Eto'o was very emotional after the game and couldn't stop admiring the cup trophy. "I'm very excited to win this trophy with Barca..it's more than just a trophy..its an unforgetable experience. I will miss this team." he concluded in tears.
