History in the making in thriller tournament

WECL HQ - This season history will be made once all is said and done. For the first time in the history of the Winning Eleven cup there will be a brand new champion as two time winners Santos and one time winner Chelsea are out of the tournament. Only four clubs remain alive; Barcelona, Liverpool, Man Utd and Sao Pablo.

The other tournament; The Winning Eleven Champions League, is shaping up slightly different; yet history still will be made regardless of the outcome. Santos could become the winner for the 5th time of the famous tournament. On the other hand title contenders Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Madrid could become brand new winners in what is shaping up to be a fantastic finish to a thriller tournament.

The WECL
The WECL is a club of Winning eleven addicts formed to give Winning Eleven a more interesting and challenging approach where the game would not only be played in front of a screen, but also outside of it.

The Winning eleven champion’s league

AKA “la liga mas dificil del mundo” is a competition organized by the WECL since 2005. There have been 4 editions and is currently in its 5th edition. The prize; the Winning eleven champion’s league trophy; is considered the most prestigious trophy in the WECL.

The league hosts some of the world's most famous clubs: Arsenal, AC Milan, Barcelona, Boca jrs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Real Madrid, San Pablo and Santos. During the course of a season, each club faces each other twice; once at home and once away, totaling 18 matches for each club by the end of the season. In the WECL, a true round robin format is used.

The current holders of The Winning eleven champion’s league trophy are Santos who is the only winner of the now famous tournament.

The Winning Eleven cup
This competition began in 2005 for The WECL clubs. Organized by the WECL it is the second most important competition after the Winning eleven champion’s league. There have been 4 editions including a tournament that was canceled and it is currently on its 5th edition. In the current format all clubs enter a knockout round. Knock-out ties are two-legged, with each team hosting one match. The team which scores the greater aggregate number of goals qualifies for the next round. The away goals rule applies. Extra time and penalty kicks are used to determine the winner, if necessary. An exception is the final, which is a single match played at a predetermined venue.

Santos is the current holders of the Winning Eleven cup, having won the competition in the 2006/07 season against Chelsea on penalties.

I have to say the first one is still my favorite; there hasn't been one as exiting. Maybe it was the 20$ dollars per team fee that made it more interesting. All clubs attended all the games and everyone had a lot fun.
Having said that; the league is stronger and better now, the level of competition is higher.
